- A (nearly perfect) solution to Space Quest III
- The manual is a waste of space (apparently).

- "Look around" then "look at ground". "Look at object" then attempt
- to "take motivator". Move S, E. "Look around" then approach
- conveyor. When standing in the correct place, you will be picked up
- (5). When you find yourself sitting on the horizontal belt (next
- screen), "stand" then "jump" (10). From here move W, W, W.

- "Look around" then "look at machine". Move directly above grabber
- and "climb down". WARNING : If you hang around this area too long,
- you will be killed by the droid. Move West around the U-Turn and
- continue East to the next screen. Stop the grabber near the right
- side of the screen. "Look at grabber" then "press button". The
- claw will descend and grab the Warp Motivator (15).

- Continue East until you move around the next U-Turn. Stop the
- grabber as soon as you are around the turn. "Press button" and the
- claw will descend and drop the Motivator into the cavity of the
- Space Craft (15). Move West back to the room with the droid. Stop
- the grabber when you are beside the platform of the chute. "Stand"
- and move South into the chute (5).

- "Look around" then "look at wire". Move to the left side of the
- screen and "look in hole". "Take reactor" (15) then move to the
- ladder in the Northeast corner. "Climb ladder" then "take ladder"
- (10). Move N, E then "look around". Continue East into the
- freighter. As you move through the freighter, you will be attacked
- by a large Rodent (whose reactor you stole!). You will lose the
- reactor at this point (-15).

- Move W, W, S. Go to the Southwest corner and "use ladder (-10)"
- then "climb down". Move to the left side of the screen and "take
- reactor" (15) again then return to the ladder. "Climb ladder" then
- "take ladder" (10) again. Move N, E and then into the freighter
- again. Stop and "look at wire". Move to the leftmost wire and
- "take wire" (5). Continue East through the freighter. The rodents
- did not see you take the reactor this time, so you will not be
- attacked.

- Move into the open and "look around" then "look at head". You
- should also "look at ground" as this will warn you that the ground
- falls away near the robot's head. Move to a point next to the head
- (in front of the ear?) and "climb" (5). When inside the head, "look
- around". Ignore the smaller ship and move around to the South side
- of the larger one. Approach the ship and "use ladder" (5). "Climb
- ladder" and move close to the hatch. "Open hatch" (10).

- When inside, "look around" then "look at floor". "Put reactor in
- compartment" (5) then "use wire" (5). You can "look at computer" if
- you wish. "Sit" and "look around". "Look at screen" then press "7"
- followed by "1". When full thrust is achieved, press "3" to take
- off. When the ship stops, "look at screen" and press "8". Press
- "F" for the Forward Screen then press Space Bar to fire (25). You
- should now be in open space.

- "Look at screen" then press "2" to enable the Navigation system.
- Press "1" to scan and then "1" again. Press "2" to set course for
- Phleebhut then "5" to attain light speed. When the screen appears
- again, press "3" to land. "Stand" then "press button".

- Travel W, N, N and "read sign". Move West and "look around". Enter
- the World of Wonders and "look around". "Offer gem" to the creature
- behind the counter. Refese the first two offers and accept the
- third of 425 buckazoids (8). The proprieter will offer various
- items for sale (all of which you will need) so "buy orat" (5), "buy
- hat" (5) then "buy underwear" (5). You may now "leave".

- Outside you will be caught by the robot who will let you go so it
- can track you. I found two methods of eliminating the robot :

- 1. Move West and enter the opening into the statue's leg. When on
- the elevator, "look at elevator" then "press up". When you arrive
- at the top, move off the elevator towards the stairs. Go upstairs
- then left along the front of the platform. Stand near the pulley
- hanging from the rope and "look at pulley". Wait for robot to
- follow and approach you. "Push pulley" and the robot will be
- knocked into the gears and destroyed. Go down to the platform below
- and "look at robot" then "take belt". My score after this was 228.

- 2. Move E, S, S, E. You should now be at your ship. If you
- attempt to enter, you will be caught. Move West and walk under the
- overhang to the left of the pustules and turn North when past them.
- If the robot does not follow (check for footprints) return to the
- side of your ship and try again. If the robot follows, your
- manoeuvre of turning North should make the robot take a diagonal
- path directly under the pustules. It will then be destroyed (45).
- Move to the left side of the remaining debris and "look at robot".
- Attempt to "take belt" then "use stick" (30). "Look at belt" then
- "wear belt". This second method is more difficult but seems to give
- ten extra points.

- Move East then re-enter your ship. Follow the previous take off and
- navigation routines to set course for the Monolith Burger stand.
- Once inside, move one screen West and approach the counter in front
- of the clerk. "Order food" and select "7", the MONOLITH FUN MEAL.
- Press "Q" to return to the counter scene and "pay clerk" (10). When
- you receive the food, move to the vacant table and sit. "Eat" food
- and you will discover the decoder ring (10).

- Move to the arcade game machine and "look at machine" or "play
- machine". Wait for the instructions to be displayed. At this point
- you should probably adjust the game speed to 16 (slowest). "Insert
- coin" and play game. The idea is to play the game until you have 5
- birds in reserve and the feed score is 100 or more. (This will
- require you to land ten consecutive chickens.) You will receive a
- total of (100) points if successful, making your score 358 at this
- time.

- The machine will then display a message in what appears to be some
- form of hieroglyphics. Close study of the structure of the message
- will reveal the symbols to be modified English characters. The
- commands "use ring" or "decode message" will display the character
- translation and give you (20) points. The message is as follows :

- INPENETRABLE FORCE FIELD NOTE : You Sierra people are
- SURROUNDS THE MOON. IT MUST great story makers and

- ORIGIN IS UNKNOWN TO US. spell "impenetrable"
- SCUMSOFT SECURITY IS ARMED worth a damn.

- TWO GUYS IN TROUBLE

- Move one screen East, then East through the automatic door. You can
- now "leave". Set course and depart for the planet Ortega. When you
- have landed, "stand", "wear underwear" (10) and "press button" to
- leave the ship. Move W, W, S and then carefully across the unstable
- area. Move South and "look around". Wait for men to leave then
- enter the area. "Look at equipment" then "look through telescope"
- (10). "Look in crate" then "take detonator" (10). Move to
- anemometer and "take pole" (10).

- Move E, E, N and walk through the cavity on the right side. Go down
- the stairs and move East. "Look around" then approach ladder.
- "Climb" then move to the edge. "Drop detonator" (20) and move back
- to the ladder. "Climb down" then move W, S, S, S, W, W, N which
- should bring you back to the previously unstable area which should
- now be a large crevasse. "Jump" or "use pole" (20) then move E, N
- and re-enter your ship.

- Scan (four times) for Pestulon (which was not previously detected
- because of the force field) and set course. Select light speed and
- go to Pestulon. Leave ship and move in any direction as they all
- take you to the same place. After guards are posted, "use belt".
- When asked for a decision, select "Enter Scumsoft".

- Walk between the guards and, when visible again, "look around".
- "Press button" (25) and head South once inside the circular
- corridor. Enter the first door on the left and "look around" then
- "look in closet". "Wear coveralls" (5) then leave room and continue
- South. Enter the next door on the right.

- NOTE : While in the accounting area, you must "use vaporizer" at
- each full waste basket that you pass closely or the people will know
- you are disguised and give the alarm which will mean your demise. I
- found that only 8 baskets needed vaporizing.

- Move to the aisle where the posts are situated and go West. Move to
- the rearmost aisle and go East. Move back to the first aisle with
- posts and head East then turn North. Go past the boss's office (if
- he's there) and exit East. You can "look around" if you wish.
- Return to the boss's office (which should now be empty) and "look at
- table". "Take card" (5) then "look at card". Retrace your path
- until you are close to the entry to accounting.

- Move into the Southernmost aisle and go West. "Look around" then
- "take picture". Go to copier then "copy picture" (5). "Replace
- picture then return East. Exit Accounting to the South. Continue
- South until you reach the door equipped with the scanner. "Use
- card" then "use picture". Enter when door open (20).

- "Look around" then "look at doors". "Press buttons" then move onto
- the platform when the bridge is extended. "Vaporize jello" and your
- score will be 737 of 738. Very shortly you will be discovered.
- Your score will be reduced to (10) more than it was before removing
- the jello ie. 528.

- Once in the arena you will have to fight the opposing robot. If you
- are successful, you will receive (100) points and will automatically
- escape into space with the two captives. When you are warned of
- attacking craft, "look at screen" then select "6" for attack speed
- and "8" for weapons system. You will have to shoot down five craft
- in a row (I think you are allowed one miss) or shields will become
- depleted and you will be destroyed. If successful, you will receive
- another (100) points and the game will move to a conclusion.

- This should give you 728 of a possible 738 points. I never found
- the other 10 points; nor did I discover a use for the flight hat. I
- found that you could "wear hat" while inside the World O Wonders,
- but lost it when you were caught by the robot. I couldn't find any
- other place to wear or use it.

- You travel through the black hole at the end of the game because no
- course is locked in. I tried locking in a course to the Monolith
- Burger stand (because the Two Guys keep raving about food) before
- landing on Pestulon. The cockpit screen displayed this course
- (sector 62) even after I had defeated the attacking craft, but the
- game still told me I had no course locked in. Sloppy work, Sierra!
